President Duterte appointed former AFP Chief of Staff Roy Cimatu as the new DENR Secretary.
Peace Process Secretary Jess Dureza broke the news on his Facebook.
The appointment came a few days after now former DENR Sec. Gina Lopez failed to pass for confirmation by the Commission on Appointment.
The sudden swearing in of Cimatu was a complete surprise to him as he had to borrow a barong tagalog from someone inside Malacanang, said Dureza.
Sec. Dureza’s post:
“NEW DENR SECRETARY ( former AFP Chief of Staff , General & special envoy to Middle East) ROY CIMATU NOW TAKING HIS OATH DURING OUR ON-GOING CABINET MEETING BEFORE PRESIDENT DUTERTE ( Note: all cabinet secretaries taking photos recording the event which was impromptu. Sec. Roy had to borrow a barong as he never expected this when he came to Malacanang today.)”
